- Modern. Does this vintage piece look modern? I know that's a lot of irony, but if the piece doesn't have a touch of modernism, it will look too costume-y.
- Quality. While many things can be fixed by a cobber or tailor, there are somethings that just can't. Beware of holes, missing beads/jewels, stains (if they've been on the piece that long, they're most likley not coming off now), and shattered hems.
- Desire. Make sure that you will actually wear this daily! It can be tempting to get something, but make sure you love it, and will actually wear it.
- Label. Just because a piece of clothing has a certain brand, it doesn't mean it's always better. Little known designers can work just as well.
- Company. Make sure you go with someone that you trust will tell you what looks good and what's too costume like.
- Trends. Forget them. Most vintage stores carry the things they do because they're timeless, therefore trends do not apply here.
- Statement. Vintage jewlery is all about statement making!
- Fake. Vintage doesn't mean it has to be real diamonds, pearls ect.
